Matt sent me a photo of this bird (we will be posting it on our website later today, but please e-mail me if you are interested in seeing it right away) and I forwarded it to Bob Sargent, Master Hummingbird Bander in Alabama. He believes that it is an immature male Green Violet-Ear Hummingbird. Matt indicates that the bird may have left, but Bob thinks it will return again to the feeder. Hopefully Matt will keep us posted. If it returns, we hope that Wisconsin's new hummingbird bander, Mickey O'Connor, can come and band the bird. There have been several other Green Violet-Ear Hummingbirds seen in Wisconsin and Michigan during the past decade, so this would not be a state record, but still extremely exciting.
