Since the weather was so crappy today, I stayed home and filled the
feeders, set out the oranges and grape jelly, hung the sugar water and
sprinkled the yard with finely chopped hulled sunflower seeds. The results
were fun! 6 W-C Sparrows, 8 W-T Sparrows, 3 Song Sparrows, 2 Swamp
Sparrows, 1 Lincoln's Sparrow, 8 female & 2 male R-W Blackbirds, 10 House
Finches, 6 Mourning Doves and (surprisingly) only 4 House Sparrows covered
the ground scratching at the seeds! I also counted 12 American Goldfinches
at the thistle feeders, 6 American Robins poking around the ground, Downy &
R-B Woodpeckers, W-B Nuthatches and Chickadees at the peanuts. A Cardinal
pair visiting the seed hopper. No Orioles or Hummingbirds yet; maybe
tomorrow...
Being home sure beat being out in the elements today!
