Hi

Today's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel carried a story on the front page on 60
years of raptor banding at Cedar Grove Hawk Research Station State Natural
Area. The above links contain the story and photos. In a sided bar not part
of the 3 page article was:

The hawks at Cedar Grove: Since 1950, Milwaukee natives Dan Berger and Helmut
Mueller have trapped and banded migrating birds on a parcel of state-owned land
along Lake Michigan in Sheboygan County. The land was designated a State
Natural Area in 1952; the site is leased to the researchers for their work on
behalf of Cedar Grove Ornithology Research Station Inc.

In the last 60 years, more than 38,000 birds of prey of 24 species have been
banded and released at the facility. To avoid conflict with research
activities, visits to the site must be coordinated with the state State Natural
Areas Program. For more information on the Cedar Grove Hawk Research Station
State Natural Area, visit dnr.wi.gov/org/land/er/sna or call 608-266-8916"

"Donations: Though it long existed on the generosity of its founders, Dan
Berger and Helmut Mueller, a fund has been established to support research at
Cedar Grove Ornithological Research Station. The endowment is maintained by
the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin, a private nonprofit that
supports wildlife and other projects in the state. To donate or obtain more
information, visit www.wisconservation.org or call 608-261-4384 or mail to
Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin, c/o Cedar Grove Ornithological
Station, P.O. Box 2317, Madison, WI 53701-2317.

Thanks to WSO who donated $500 and to Noel Cutright who donated $1,000 from his
breeding bird survey project to the Endowment Fund. We hope others will make
a contribution. We are donating $60, a dollar for each year that Berger and
Mueller have banded raptors at Cedar Grove.
