how does a hub between client and switch help you sniff?? Presumeably, you
would still only see the traffic sent out the switch port for MAC addresses
on the hub???

Yeah, we also use this setup to allow us to sniff our firewall from time to
time - works great !

A cheap hub added between workstation and switch would provide you an access

Unless you're using a promiscous port on the switch you'll only see
traffic for that segment. If you have a quality switch, you should be
able to configure this, otherwise you'll hav e to use some sort of arp
poisoning (which will cause serious network slowdown, be careful).
