[windows2000] Re: SUBST error

That's exactly how we used it, even as far back as Winframe 1.7 !!! Ahh the
good old days :-)

We use subst on our old MF1.8 farm and it's definitely user-specific and can
be used to redirect mapped drive letters.

Sorry but past experience and usage has shown that SUBST in a TS environment
is user (session) specific as far as we're concerned here !? How can SUBST
be machine specific and stored in HKLM by a normal (non admin) user as they
don't have write access to HKLM ???

Subst can be used on top of a net use:
net use z: \\server\usersshare
subst x: z:\specificuserfolder

Also, net use mappings, if persistent, are saved as part of the users
profile settings (HKCU), whereas subst mappings are saved as part of the
machine profile and will be present for all users (HKLM).

Well unless I'm mistaken SUBST is only designed to be used with Local
Physical Drive mapping issues and NOT UNC paths! SUBST /? Returns the
following

Associates a path with a drive letter.

SUBST [drive1: [drive2:]path]
SUBST drive1: /D

drive1: Specifies a virtual drive to which you want to assign a
path.
[drive2:]path Specifies a physical drive and path you want to assign to
                 a virtual drive.
/D Deletes a substituted (virtual) drive.

Type SUBST with no parameters to display a list of current virtual drives.

For UNC you should be using NET USE !

Subject: [windows2000] SUBST error

Hello all,
I have this issue when I (as the Domain Admin) try and run this command:
"SUBST X: \\server\shared_out <file:///\\server\shared_out> "
The problem is that in explorer the mapped drive has a RED X on it. At first
that pointed me to this http://thethin.net/faqs2.cfm?id)4
<http://thethin.net/faqs2.cfm?id)4&category sortby=date>
&category sortby=date and this Q269163. But I have a twist to it, I CAN
NOT access it. It error out with this "X:\ is not accessible, The filename,
directory name, or volume lable syntax is incorrect"

This command works fine if I do this "SUBST X: \\The_Local_Server\shared_out
<file:///\\The_Local_Server\shared_out> " but that's not using a file
server.

Can someone PLEASE help :-(
