Use an ssh tunnel with rsync (http://rsync.samba.org). I currently use
ssh-tunnel and rsync (available with cygwin http://www.cygwin.com). Rsync is a
GNU utility that has many helpful features. Depending on the amount data being
backuped it may take a few minutes to build the file list (currently with a
11gig used filestore the file list takes 15mins). From there it updates changed
files only. Rsync with ssh (both available as part of cygwin) can be used for
ssh-tunnel backup. It's as simple as selecting openssh and rsync from the
cygwin setup script, putting the cygwin\bin directory in your path (or call
them from their full path during runtime) and using switches (i.e. rsync
--rsh="ssh -2 -i c:\location_of_private_key" *
user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:/destination/path). That with a little batch/cmd magic and
you can redirect stdout to a text file for viewing later.

I looked at RoboCopy, but I don't have vpn capability at this time - I
would have to replace all of the remote routers. Only backing up the
changed files would be ideal - just don't know of a secure way over a
non-vpn connection ... maybe there is no other way??
