I just poked around on the IBM site, they're selling x330's in a standard (IBM that is) 19 inch rack with them stacked on top of each other. The rack has perforated front & back with solid sides... It's definitely a front to back flow. -----Original Message----- From: Greg Reese [mailto:GReese@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, November 08, 2002 10:27 AM To: windows2000@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [windows2000] Re: Rack Space they are IBM. Our rack is basically just a shell. No side or front = panels, open all around. We have our air setup the same way with the = return in the ceiling behind the rack and the perfs towards the front. = Although we found out the hard way that the A/C condensation drain pipe = runs right over the rack. I walked in one morning to find water = dripping on the rack and servers. Not fun, I don't recommend it. We = are moving the rack when we add the new servers which is why I am = gathering info. The IBM servers have fins/perfs on the corner. If you look at front = face, the slits are both on the front and underneath a little. It = doesn't look like there are any intakes on the top or bottoms so I guess = I probably should stack them closer. -----Original Message----- From: Nail, Larry [mailto:lnail@xxxxxx] Sent: Friday, November 08, 2002 11:12 AM To: 'windows2000@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [windows2000] Re: Rack Space Greg, What servers are you using? Dell & Compaq pull air from Front to Back, = so the sides, top, & bottom don't matter. Take a look at a Compaq or Dell = rack & you'll note that the fronts are perferated and the sides are solid. In our data center, we put perferated tiles in front of the racks and = put the air returns in the ceiling above the backs of the racks. Is it generally better to leave = =3D some space between them or just stack them up right on top of each =3D = other? Or does it not matter at all. Just curious what everyone else is doing.
