our server room has its own A/C and is generally kept pretty cool. We = have airflow on all sides of the rack and generally if you stand behind = the rack, you feel a pretty good breeze of hot air coming at you. I have the xseries 330's spaced out by about 1U now. I will check with = IBM and see what they have to say about it and post that to everyone -----Original Message----- From: Rob Combis [mailto:rcombis@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, November 08, 2002 10:28 AM To: windows2000@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [windows2000] Re: Rack Space From what I understand (and again it probably depends on the =3D manufacturer) is that Rack mounted servers are made to stack on top of = =3D one another, and will not cool as well any other way. This does sound = =3D illogical (but it is what I heard) so I would do some research into your = =3D server manufacturers and see what they say. If you find anything out, = =3D please share it with us. Also it depends on the room where you are storing the servers. =3D20 -----Original Message----- From: Greg Reese [mailto:GReese@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, November 08, 2002 9:52 AM To: windows2000@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [windows2000] Rack Space I have to add some servers to my rack. Is it generally better to leave = =3D =3D3D some space between them or just stack them up right on top of each =3D3D other? Or does it not matter at all. Just curious what everyone else is doing.
