It's our main NAS, so lots of departmental and personal home directories. Gotta store those files somewhere ;-) -----Original Message----- From: Jim Kenzig http://thin.net [mailto:jimkenz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 29 September 2004 13:55 To: windows2000@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [windows2000] Re: Is there a tool to strip the comments field from W2K shares? Why so many shares? This is a virus propagation nightmare waiting to happen. -----Original Message----- From: windows2000-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:windows2000-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Angus Macdonald Sent: Wednesday, September 29, 2004 8:49 AM To: windows2000@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [windows2000] Is there a tool to strip the comments field from W2K shares? We have lots of Win9x clients and are hitting a problem with the number of shares on our NAS. As soon as we hit about 950 shares with win9x machines have trouble browsing the share list. MS KB202892 explains the problem and suggests a couple of fixes, one of which is shortening the comments field. The vast majority of our shares were migrated from other servers automatically and have a constant comment field. Does anyone know of a tool I can use to strip the comments fields from our shares?
