Hi Rod,

I did some test restores in the past, and also exchange restores.
If you have a full backup from your windows 2000 server (with the open
file option installed) and a good exchange full backup (with the
exchange client), you are safe.
The restore procedures can all be found on the website of veritas.
Go to support.veritas.com. There you can browse for documents. There are
also documents about redirect restores.
We are using Backup Exec v8.6, and I wonder if version 8.5 has the
ability to backup/restore exchange 2000 properly, but that's something
you wou'll have to find out.

If everthing is over, I recommed a newer version of Backup Exec (version
9.0) and some test restores......
The first time I restored a complete exchange server, it took me 2
days......After writing everyhting down, I could restore it in 6 hours
(where the largest part restoring all the data).

Good luck,

Dennis Appelboom

from a
        Veritas backup tape?

I am trying to restore an Exchange 2000 Server database from
backup. As I
think I've mentioned before on this list, I had a couple of HDs
fail in a
RAID-5 array, which ruin my ability to recover. I've contacted
Microsoft
Tech Support and together with them I have come up with a plan
to restore
the Exchange database to a new server (which wasn't being used
for anything
anyway). I renamed the new server to the same name as the old
server and
did a "SETUP /DisasterRecovery" against the Exchange CD.
Exchange is now on
        the new box.

That's nice, but I have no clue as to how to restore the
Exchange database
from our backup tape. We are using Veritas' Backup Exec version
8.5. I've
gone into it, and used Restore Selection, but now what? How do
I know what
to select? How do I tell it where to put it on the new server?
I've tried
to figure that out with the dialog box, but have gotten no
where.

        Help!
