Yes, I have only one DC, it's a small school with all the students and =
faculty as its users. I would hate to have to put all the students back =
in to the AD.

I think I'm good to go on this issue, thanks to everyone who donated =
your time.

Am I mistaken in thinking authoritative Restore is for restoring objects
deleted from an existing AD structure. This would imply he already has
another DC online. So then comes the question is this your last DC in =
the
forest (or the only AD DC you have on your network)? or you got other =
DCs
online.

If this is one of many DCs that is just running out of hard drive space, =
I
would not sweat it too much. I'd remove it from domain, take the AD off =
it,
rebuild it to my specifications, and then run DCPROMO on it. The system
should then synch with all other DCs and start rebuilding its AD =
database.
End of story.

However, if this is your last DC for this domain, or the only one and =
you
are running out of space. Then, I would do what the guys have been
suggesting.. Back the system up. Make sure you backup the System State,
because that is the minimum required to backup the Active Directory and =
all
its objects. Test your backup to make sure it works. Then remove AD from
system, wipe partitions, reinstall, then recreate system as replica in =
terms
of machine name, IP, etc. then run DCPROMO, then restore system state in
safe mode.

This is pretty much all there is to it, unless I missed something. I am =
sure
others will be bale to add points.

Good luck.
