I can't help you on your question per se, but unless things have changed, I think Linux still has trouble writing to NTFS partitions and this might be the reason, or one of the reasons. I hear tell that there are utility programs for Linux to write to NTFS, but I never tried it and probably won't. :-O The thought of wiping out that partition is enough to keep me from trying it.
