Hi Marty, when you say the other player do you mean Windows media player, or real player? Don't worry, mentioning the other players names won't get you thrown in the W4TB jail, lol! Seriously, I do think that if you add/listen.pls at the end, your browser is going to look for a file called listen.pls, and if it doesn't find one, it's not going to work very well. To my knowledge, the m3u or pls file is a simple text file containing the address of the stream you want to link to, so simply creating one and uploading it to your website should not be much of a problem i don't think. i don't think there's any way of doing this other than doing it the m3u or pls way.

Hi Gail, that is not what I'm asking, what I want to know is, is it always necessary to upload to your site, either a .m3u or .pls file in order for people to listen to a stream with winamp? I know the open location dialog works with winamp, just wondering because, I can paste an address in to a link that starts out with mms, which is for the other player, and when I go to the site I've uploaded to, it brings up the other player, no problem, and just wonder if this could be done with winamp as well.

Marty:
I just did this and it worked. I brought up Winamp, pressed ctrl-l and entered the exact url you had in your e-mail and hit enter. Winamp got and played it so fast I was startled. If that other player comes up when you do this, then you need to go into that other player's priorities and shut them down.

Hi all, this is winamp related, but it will sound like it is off topic,
but here's what I'm wondering, and that is, is there a way to stream a
file with winamp from a web site without uploading either a .m3u file,
or a .pls file, so that an address such as
http://207.36.18.73:8040
will play in winamp, rather than the other player. I could write a
link, and paste the above address in, and after the link is created, if
I go to it, it will bring up the other player, so just out of
curiossity, can this be done, or, must you always upload either an .m3u
or a .pls file that winamp can point to in order to play your stream
with winamp? Hope this is not considered off topic, but was just
curious about this.
