ASL Instructor at UVA

The American Sign Language Program at the University of Virginia seeks a full-time visiting lecturer to begin in August of 2007. This is a one-year position for the 2007-08 academic year. Responsibilities will include teaching three ASL classes per semester and contributing to curriculum design, development of teaching materials, and the overall growth of a rigorous, innovative ASL Program. The lecturer will also help supervise drill instructors. Salary commensurate with educational and professional experience. The position comes with an attractive benefits package.

Requirements:
Advanced or native ASL skills; MA in Teaching ASL as a Foreign Language, Deaf Studies, Linguistics, or related field; familiarity with VISTA Signing Naturally curriculum and current Deaf Studies scholarship; extensive experience with the Deaf community; and the ability to work well with others. Experience teaching ASL at the college level preferred.

CapTel Customer Service Representative

Job Summary
Responsible for providing quality customer service to individuals using or interested in the CapTel products and service.

Essential Job Functions:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Job duties may change, as different needs are determined.

• Provide outreach and training, and attend trade shows on behalf of the company. • Provide direct service support to customers verbally and in writing on a daily basis via email, fax, mail and regular phone by answering questions that may arise

regarding the CapTel product, captioning service or maintenance.
• Provide assistance and any necessary follow up to customers regarding technical support questions received and report findings to appropriate staff. • Assist with reporting and documentation of trends, issues, problems, and feedback from customers in the Customer Service Database and other established

reporting formats. Share findings with the appropriate management personnel.
• Enter and maintain records of customer related data in the Customer Service Database and other files. • Provide input on development of consumer materials that aid in orientation and continued use of CapTel products and service.
• Assist with mailings to CapTel customers.

Requirements:
• Strong oral and written skills to communicate with customers via email, fax, in person and phone by voice/CapTel and TTY. • Ability to work with varying individuals objectively with a calm, relaxed demeanor and make judgment calls and decisions on the spot. • Good working knowledge of Microsoft WORD and email use (required); Ability to use Excel (preferred). • Ability to multi-task and handle multiple ongoing projects at the same time in a fast paced work environment.
• Good follow through on daily tasks in a timely manner.
• Strong accuracy to detail/data entry for case management and data entry.
• Efficient use of time with good organizational skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot and explain to others set up and use of CapTel technology once trained on the product. • Exposure to individuals with hearing loss and the technology they use (desired). **Candidates with hearing loss who have the ability to use a (Captioned

PEPNet-Midwest is extending a reimbursement opportunity to individuals in the Midwest Region who successfully complete C-Print or TypeWell training between 10/1/06 and 9/30/07.

PEPNet-Midwest Region: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wisconsin Training must be completed between 10/1/06 and 9/30/07. Successful completion is determined by C-Print and TypeWell training programs.

Stipends are awarded after training is complete and paperwork is received. A total of 10 C-Print training stipends and 10 TypeWell training stipends are available for reimbursement between 10/1/06 and 9/30/07.

The maximum individual reimbursement is $300.
