Paul,

It could possibly be something to do with the type of file you're attempting to 
open. Maybe try a number of different media files to see if that helps at all.

Is there an error code the programme throws up when you get the message that it 
needs to close? 

I remember having trouble removing Windows Media in the past. If I recall 
correctly it installs as part of the OS, so it's not as straightforward to 
remove as normal applications. This may have changed since though.

Hi Paul,

About the only thing I can think of here is to go to the Windows Media site and 
download the latest version.  Then just do a reinstall.
