Hi, all, Did you hear the interview this morning on Morning Ireland with Kieran O'Callaghan of the Cork Institute of Technology? He is the first irish man to win the very coveted European Student Innovation of the Year Award outright for his device for visually impaired users. I understand from the interview that the device detects obstacles and presents information to the user by stimulating parts of the tongue. Fascinating! He previously developed a tool to inform visually impaired swimmers where they are in a swimming lane and when they are approaching the end of the pool. As someone who is totally blind, I know from hard experience what it is like to smack my hand against the end wall so that sounds like a great idea as well.
