The Google app is the personal assistant which normally comes with the regular Android OS. And no there was no voice, just the chime sound which is the usual thing you hear on Android when saying OK Google. It is like when on the IPhone you say Hey Siri.
I still am unclear about you saying you can ask the Fire to open a native app by just saying open.... Is this with Alexa? I tried asking Alexa to open email and she could not. So how do you accomplish this?

hi marie and laz. marie, what do you mean by "google app" in your post?

when you said "ok google" was the voice returned the alexa voice.

interesting thread.

do either of you own a google home device?

note that i do not have the google play store installed on my fire.

but, using alexa i can open email, open silk browser, open and set
alarms and never done but i imagine create calendar items.

Here is the strange part. When I first installed the Google app, I said the

command OK Google and the Fire chimed at which time I told it to open the
Play Store and it did open it. Now I am wondering if the Fire will open the

native apps, that is how it happened but I did hear the normal chime when I

said OK Google so it has me a bit confused. I was hoping the Google app
would be available on the Fire.

Hi William,

OK Google is the Android version of SIRI on iOS. With the right
Android phone one can just say Ok Google and it will chime at which
point you can give it a command. On some Android phones one has to
instead double tap the voice Search or voice command button on the
screen normally found at the top just beneath the notification bar. I
doubt the OK Google command will work on a Fire tablet.
