Hi, Dwayne. The keyboard will randomly generate a PIN once it is recognized
by the Fire, or when the Fire recognizes that the keyboard is in pairing
mode. It's usually a four digit number. You use the keyboard to enter this
PIN and press enter. If the Android version of the keyboard is like the
Apple style I have you don't have a lot of time to enter the PIN. If you
only manage to enter half of the code or the wrong numbers, the pairing will
fail and you'll need to have another code generated.
If you're not comfortable with the layout of the Amazon Basics Keyboard you
might want to save yourself the frustration and have someone more
comfortable with the on screen keyboard help you.
The good news is that once it's paired it should stay paired.

Thank you for your help. One more question. You said that you had to enter the pin number of the Bluetooth device. Where do you find the pin number?

hi dwayne. this is from amazon. this order of pairing might be more understandable than what i wrote. you will have to scroll and listen for the pair key. it's been awhile since i've done this, but, it will be found if you will follow the steps as outlined.
note you will find more in the user manual on your fire.
You can pair your Fire with wireless devices that use Bluetooth technology, such as speakers or keyboards.
Before you pair your device with a Bluetooth accessory, verify that the accessory is within range and is compatible with your Kindle Fire.
1. Verify that your Bluetooth accessory is turned on and set to pairing mode.
2. Swipe down from the top of the screen to show Quick Settings, and then tap Wireless.
3. Tap Bluetooth.
4. Next to Enable Bluetooth, tap On. Your Kindle Fire will search for a list of available devices.
5. Under Available Devices, tap a Bluetooth accessory to pair it with your Kindle Fire, and then follow any additional pairing instructions.
When you pair your Bluetooth accessory with your Kindle Fire, a Bluetooth image of bluetooth icon
icon will appear next to the wireless indicator in the top right corner of the screen.
some of the above is visual stuff, the last comment, but, you can do this completely with voice-view.
stay well ... william
