Hi Alexander,

The S4 is one of the most popular phone's around so there are definitely options for cases.

I'm curious that you say you have to remove the back though? I've never seen this except for you can buy replacement backs for some phone's in different colours / designs etc but that would usually just be the back panel, not with a flip case or anything. Does your phone perhaps already come with a silicone (rubber) bumper style case? This would just cover the back and sides - if you take what you called the current back off the phone, is it still smooth underneath or are you at the battery / sim card etc?

If it's still smooth then that is a 'case' even if it's thin so you likely would need to remove it to use another case.

If not, maybe it's got something to do with the S4 being able to detect the little window in some of those flip cases and automatically show the clock etc there, I just assumed they used magnets like the ipad cases do, but I'm open to being wrong, P particularly as I don't actually have an S4.

Anyway your options for cases for most phone's tend to be:

-wallet style flip case, often real or faux leather, sometimes with slits for credit cards on the flip cover, as you likely know, many of the S4 cases have a little window to show the clock through. I like the idea of flip cases for the protection they give the screen but they can be a bit unweildly, particularly say if you like to hold the phone left handed and the case is hinged there and doesn't flip right back.

- bumper style cases, usually plastic or silicone, only cover the back and sides of the phone. I've been using these with my phone's lately though some of them can make the buttons harder to feel. I've currently got one on my note with a little plastic stand which pops out to sit it on a table.

- sleeves or socks, can be leather, plastic, knitted or virtually anything but essentially a case which covers the whole phone for protection but which you have to remove while you're actually using the phone. If you've got a bumper case and are worried about screen protection, something like this (perhaps for a slightly bigger model like the galaxy note to accommodate the S4 in it's case) could be an option.

- arm band. A rubbery fabric band which goes around your arm with a built in pocket for the phone. Either has a plastic window to see and interact with the phone, or a completely covered pocket you need to remove the phone from to use. Great for exercising, probably an odd look in a business suit *grin*.

You can often buy them either from phone shops, Samsung shop, many other places which sell phones (dick smith's, JB hi-fi, electronics stores, Kmart, target etc) and certainly online.

I've bought some from eBay (I wouldn't buy electronics like the phone or SD cards from eBay, or a branded bag etc!) For something like a generic case for an S4 you should be fine and get it for a couple dollars.

I notice one other site I've used here in Australia, deals direct has several different S4 case styles: http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/search.php?q=s4+case&x=-920&y=-88

A couple of other sites off the top of my head are shoppingsquare.com.au and uniquemobiles.com.au

All the best,

Quentin

Hi all,

I've been trying to get a case for my new S4, but all the cases the shops
have seem to be flip cases, which in my personal opinion makes me question
the need for a back on the phone, since the back needs to be removed for a
flip case to operate correctly.

Are there any cases, (other than flip cases), I can obtain, (online if
necessary), which will accommodate the phone including its current back?
