Our sun has just bought a Samsung 4 with a case that goes around the outside
of the phone. It has a strong plastic glass front.
He says the only reason you would need to take the back off is if you have
purchased a bigger battery.
Then you need to.
Why don't you just ring around a few suppliers or go into a phone shop and
get them to show how the phones fit into the various cases.
You don't have to buy it then, just go away and quietly make up your mind.

Hi Alexander,
Hard shell I think just means the case is hard plastic rather than soft
rubber. Not sure about whether you'd have to remove the original phone back.
GT i9500 is the model number for the S4. You can double check yours by going
into settings (open notification shade and there's an option in the top
right), then the bottom option is "about phone" and all your model info is
in there.
Do let us know how you go, and how you find that keyboard. I wondered if
the phone size ones were a bit small to be comfortable to use though I have
just ordered a similar style case for my nexus 10 tablet as well.
