I have both male and females at my feeder in Woodlake. The male showed up at least a week before the female. And I was late getting the feeders out this year. I usually try to get it out by April 1. One year a hummer showed up before I got the feeder out, but he came and looked for it in the exact spot that it had hung for years. I'm convinced he remembered the exact spot from the previous year. Remember to keep your feeders out in the fall for those crazy Rufous hummers. I would be sure to get them out by November 1st. My rufous came the first year near Thanksgiving, and then near the 15th the next year. So, it could have been here even earlier. It's not much work, just bring the feeder inside on cold nights ( I put it in a bucket in case it leaks). My Rufous stayed both years from November to early January. Nothing beats seeing a humming bird on a frosty morning at Christmas time! Bob Siegfried You are subscribed to VA-Richmond-General.
