Took a ride to East Jack Jouett Road in Louisa County this evening. Within five
minutes of my arrival, I saw four Northern Harriers hunting. Then, based upon a
tip from a local resident I drove around the corner to East Green Springs Road
to look for Short-eared Owls. As the sun set, I witnessed at least four of the
owls calling and hunting fields to the left of the big yellow farmhouse. Best
viewed in the open fields right of a road sign which indicates a curve to the
left. They hunted both sides of the road, calling and flying only six feet
above my head!
