I have been watching a badly crippled Canada goose that's been sitting on
her eggs at a pond in front of the FedEx building near the Richmond airport.
My husband works near there and has been watching the pond for me to see
when the goslings hatch. They were the only geese at the pond along with a
single Mallard duck.
He called me this morning and said that had hatched and were walking around
in the grass, eating. He said there was also a GBH on the edge of the
water.I went down there a few hours later.. No geese to be found anywhere.
I called my husband and he said there was a state truck sitting there while
he was there and they were looking at the geese. He didn't think anything of
it.
Last week when I was there to check for the Green Heron and the Geese, some
men were mowing the grass. I saw a woman come out of one of the businesses
and talk to the men. I couldn't hear what she was saying, but she was
pointing at the goose on her eggs.
Now, after doing a little research on the net, I have come to the
realization that the geese and their goslings were trapped and killed this
morning. The meat being donated to a charity food program.
I realize that to a lot of people geese are a nuisance and a supposed health
hazard.
But this has just made me feel sick.
