VA Birders,
I stopped by the Chinn Ridge area of Manassas Battlefield this evening
about 6:00pm. After stopping to look at an Eastern Wood-Pewee on the
top of a dead snag, then a Northern Mockingbird on the top of a dead
snag, and finally an Eastern Phoebe on top of a dead snag, I was
rewarded with excellent views of an Olive-sided Flycatcher when it came
and chased the phoebe away. The bird then proceeded to actively
flycatch from trees on both sides of the road while I was able to get it
in my scope for brief glimpses before it moved to another perch. It
alternated between two trees along the road just before the parking area
for Chinn Ridge. Perhaps this bird will hang around for some other
lucky viewers tomorrow!
