VA Birders:
Anyone not familiar with the Musick's Campground area along South Holston Lake
at the Virginia stateline should take a special note of caution if you are
coming to see the Sooty Tern which has been present for several days.
CAUTION: THE SOUTH HOLSTON SITE DESCRIPTION OF "THE VIRGINIA BIRDING AND
WILDLIFE TRAIL" FOR THE MOUNTAIN AREA DOES NOT PROVIDE USEFUL INFORMATION TO
BIRD THIS IMPORTANT BIRDING AREA IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA.
The Musick's Campground observation area is one of the most productive
waterbird areas in the Southern Appalachians and all of Southwest Virginia.
The Musick's Campround in Tennessee overlooks Virginia waters. The area is
about 100 yards from the stateline. It is the main advantage point for all
observations in this area. The birding and sign in stations are managed by the
Bristol Bird Club and the area is open to all birders during normal birding
hours (dawn to dark).
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries favored describing
Washington County Park which, at best, is very minimal. Vew if any local
birders use the park. It is a fenced fee area that is generally closed to the
public during most of the excellent birding seasons.
Got to Musick's Camgpround to view the Sooty Tern. Directions are in the
previous post.
Let's go birding....
