Early this afternoon after the rain stopped I went to Metz Wetlands where I ran
into Kurt Gaskill. The place was hopping, and we tallied 79 species in about
2.5 hours. The highlight was a yellow-crowned night heron perched on a snag.
I have never seen one at Metz. Other goodies at Metz and around the nearby
WaWa were several singing northern waterthrush, warbling vireo, green heron,
redstart, rose-breasted grosbeak, savannah sparrow, blue-winged tead, both
orioles, lots of swamp sparrows, and the ubiquitous king rail.
