Howdy all,
Today turned out to be the best day of the season so far. We banded a total
of 72 birds and had three recaptures. The total species list reached 20 birds
this morning and early afternoon. Best birds of the day were BLACK-THROATED
BLUE WARBLER, AMERICAN REDSTART, SUMMER TANAGER and INDIGO BUNTING. Also new to
the area around the station was BALTIMORE ORIOLE, VEERY, and ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAK.
There were quite a few birds around today inspite of the wind. And any day
that you catch nine species of warblers is always a good day. Sure hope
tomorrow
is like this!

CHUCK-WILLS-WIDOWS are hear in the park in good numbers it seems. They start
calling around 8pm. They are also calling when I leave the house at 5am. One
this morning was quite excited I assume. He was making noises I have not hear a
Chucks do, like a "chuck, chuck, chuck" like knocking two pieces if hollow
dowel rods together and it also did a "growl" call too. Nice way to start off
the day!
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
