part five

The small ship, about the size of a Danube-class runabout, sat cloaked three meters off the hull of Starbase 292. The agent beamed onto his ship with his prize.  Only now, it wasn't much of a prize.
"You hurt mah momma!"  The boy was being hald by the agent by his left arm, and he was swinging with his right arm.  And his punches could be felt as the boy would land them.  It was the shot to the face that really hurt and forced action by the Firegon.
He punched the boy, which then sent Ronov crashing to the rear of the compartment they were in.  The agent looked into the boy's eyes, He could see that he had hurt the kid, and the boy was on the verge of tears, something he had seen other hooman children do on that blasted station.  But, the boy did not cry.
"Now, boy!  Get in the aft compartment and stay out of my way," the Firegon ordered, pointing to the small compartment to the rear of his ship.  "And take off those Federation rags!"
    "No," Ronov said defiantly.
The Firegon charged Ronov and lifted him from the deck.  He looked the boy in the eyes, baring his pointed teeth.  "You are mine now!  You will do as you're told."  He released the boy, practically throwing him into the aft compartment.  He saw genuine fear in the boy's eyes, which suited him just fine.  Still, though, the boy did not cry.  Very curious indeed.
The agent closed the door to the aft compartment, locking it.  He then turned and made his way to the pilot's seat.
The shuttle turned, still under cloak, and left.

The pain was unbearable.  April looked over where her son had been just moment's ago.  She reached up to tap her comm-badge, but it wasn't there.  She looked around, but couldn't find it .  She had to find out what the Firegon was doing in that accessway.
Despite the pain, she pulled herself up. Stumbling the whole distance, she made it to the access.  Her eyes went wide when she saw the charges attached to the power conduits.
That's going to destroy the station.
She reached in, and started fumbling with the magnetic clamps that held it in place.  The pain now going through her entire mid-section was almost unbearable.  Still, she managed to pull the charges loose.  With whatever strength she had remaining, she tossed the charges down the corridor, away from the lift, in case help was on its way.
The pain, finally winning over April's resolve, caused her to collapsed to the deck.  Right by her hand was the toy comm-badge that Ronov always wore.  She grasped it, just as the bomb exploded.
