Pur non ricevendo risposta, ma avendo una paio d'ore libere ho provato a
tradurre l'intervista di Reinhard Tartler. In allegato il txt per la
revisione.
Ditemi cosa devo fare, se devo portarla in HTML o se per la formattazione ci
pensa qualcun altro.
Come convenzione ho usato gli asterischi per evidenziare i titoli Es:
(*Titolo*) il trattino per evidenziare le domande ed ho lasciato tra
parentesi tonde doppie l'originale in inglese per una piu' rapida revisione.

- In che modo sei coinvolto in Ubuntu?
Sono attualmente membro del gruppo ubuntu-core-dev in launchpad, comunque mi
impegnano molto di più i pacchetti che seguo in universe. ((I'm currently
member of the ubuntu-core-dev team in launchpad, however I'm more involved with
the packages in universe.))
- Quanto tempo spendi lavorando su Ubuntu?
((How much time do you spend working on Ubuntu?))
Dipende. Ho lavorato da una a tre ore al giorno durante il ciclo di edgy, un
pò di più durante il ciclo
di Dapper. ((It differs. 1-3h a day during edgy cycle, way more during the
dapper cycle.))
- Sei pagato per lavorare su Ubuntu? ((Are you being paid to work on Ubuntu?))
No
- Tu sei membro di numerosi gruppi su launchpad, tra i quali l'ubuntu "core
developer team". Che ruoli svolgi in essi e che differenze ci sono? (You are a
member of several launchpad teams, amongst others the ubuntu core development
team. What roles do you play in them and how do they differ from each other?)
Nel core-dev-team, sono principalmente coinvolto con i merge. Sono attualmente
focalizzato sui pacchetti di xine per riportali in forma. In ubuntu-dev ho
iniziato come mentore (avevo già seguito qualcuno come mentore ;), ed aiuto
anche con i merge. ((In the core-dev-team, I'm mainly helping out with merges.
I'm currently focusing on the xine packages to get it back to shape. In
ubuntu-dev, I started Mentoring (I already got someone to mentor ;), and help
with merges as well.))
- Come ha il progetto REVU (uno strumento di revisione che aiuta a creare
pacchetti per il Repository Universe), che tu hai avviato lo scorso anno,
aiutato a coinvolgere la comunità nel pacchettizzare le applicazioni? ((How
has the REVU project (a review tool to help create packages for the Universe
Repository), which you started last year, helped to involve the community in
packaging applications?))
Io penso a REVU come ad una piattaforma di presentazione, quindi i revisori
possono controllare il sorgente del pacchetto più facilmente di quanto si
potesse fare prima. Dopo tutto, noi chiedemmo ai contributori di aggiungere i
loro pacchetti ad una pagina wiki. Sono assolutamente convinto che il processo
di presentazione dei pacchetti agli altri è diventato più semplice grazie a
REVU. ((I think of REVU as a presentation platform, so that reviewers can look
at the source package more easily that the process was before. Before that, we
asked contributors to add their package to a wiki page. I surely think that the
process of presenting packages to others has been made easier because of REVU.))
- Quanto pensi siano importanti i backports per ubuntu data la sua
pianificazione di rilascio frequente?
(How important do you think backports are for ubuntu due to its frequent
release schedule?)
Gli utenti vogliono sempre eseguire l'ulima versione. Spesso leggono gli
annunci o i changelog riguardo nuove funzionalità che desiderano provare,
oppure possono esserci correzioni di gravi bug o magari ancora altre ragioni.
Credo che i backports colmino una mancanza: l'avere materiale fresco in un
ambiente stabile e affidabile. Sono molto dispiaciuto che non ci siano stati
nessun backport per dapper-backports ancora, questo perché launchpad ancora
non lo permette. Ho letto che c'é del lavoro in corso su questo argomento,
comunque.
(People always want to run latest crack. Often they read in announcements or
changelogs about new features which they want to try out. Or there are grave
bugs fixed. Or other reasons. I think backports fill a gap: Getting fresh stuff
into a released and reliable environment. I'm very sorry that there hasn't been
any backport for dapper-backports yet, because launchpad isn't able to do that
yet. I read that there is ongoing work on this issue, however.)
- Quali problemi incorri quando crei un pacchetto e quali pacchetti hai trovato
più rognosi? (What problems do you come across when packaging and which
package did you find hardest?)
Oh, ci sono differenti problemi in più aree. Attualmente, ad esempio, c'é
della confusione riguarto le nuove policy di python e le differenze tra
python-central e python-support. Ma io credo che questo sarà risolto in
Debian. Trovo il paccheto di xine una bella sfida, dato che il pacchetto non é
mai stato in un ottimo stato. Da quando dapper é stata rilasciata, ho cercato
di focalizzare i miei sforzi sui pacchetti in Debian. In questo modo entrambe
le distribuzione beneficeranno del mio lavoro.
((Oh there are many individual problems on areas. Currently e.g. there is some
confusion about the new python policy and the difference about python-central
vs. python-support. But I think this will be worked out in debian. I find the
xine package quite challenging, since the package wasn't in that good shape.
Since dapper release, I rather try to focus my packaging efforts on packages in
debian. This way, both distributions profit from my work.))
- A cosa hai lavorato in Dapper? ((What did you work on for Dapper?))
Ci sono molte piccole cose. Ho lavorato a REVU, nel MOTU UVF team, ho lavorato
a pacchetti collegati a giochi (londonlaw, scorched3d), diversi merge (facendo
il merge dei pacchetti aggiornati in debian con quelli di ubuntu), ho lavorato
all'usabilità di dapper. Ho anche lavorato nel gruppo MOTUMedia sul pacchetto
mplayer e alle librerie dipendenti.
((There were many smaller things. I worked on REVU, I worked in the MOTU UVF
team, I worked on game related packages (londonlaw, scorched3d), many merges
(merging updated packages in debian with those in ubuntu), I got fai usable on
dapper. I also worked in the MOTUMedia team on the mplayer package plus
depending libraries.))
- A cosa stai lavorando in Edgy? ((What are you working on for Edgy?))
Attualmente nei merge ed in xine. Ho bisogno di ridurre il mio impegno in
ubuntu un pò, visto che ho da scrivere la mia tesi per il master questo
semestre. Spero di poter tornare a lavorare su REVU2 dopo questo ;)
((Currently merges and xine. I need to reduce my work in ubuntu a bit, since I
have to write my master thesis this semester. I hope I can return with hacking
on REVU2 after that ;) ))
- Quale funzionalità vorresti vedere o vedere migliorata in Ubuntu? ((What
feature would you like to see/improve in Ubuntu? ))
Credo XEN in main sarebbe veramente una sfida. Sto anche pensando alle
specifiche NoMoreSourcePackages. ((I think XEN in main would be a really
challenging task. I'm also looking forward to the NoMoreSourcePackages spec.))
- Contribuisci al FLOSS in altri modi? ((Do you contribute to FLOSS in any
other ways?))
Attualmente sto per diventare anche sviluppatore Debian. ((I'm currently on my
way to become a Debian Developer.))
- Quale window manager/desktop environment usi e cosa ti piace di esso? ((Which
window manager/desktop environment do you use and what do you like about it?))
Attualmente sto usando l'ambiente grafico GNOME. Mi piace perché per me
fornisce una interfaccia utente usabile. Inoltre molte delle funzionalitÃ
legate al gestore del risparmio energetico sono meglio supportate in GNOME.
((I'm currently using the GNOME Desktop Environment. I like it because it
provides a usable user interface for me. Moreover many of ubuntu's
powermanagement features are best supported in GNOME.))

I miei portatili si chiamano 'hermes' e 'ares', il pc fisso si chiama 'hades'
