This week's QuickTip coming up, but first...

==> One Week Until "Log Freedom!"

The new TuneStacker 4, included in our TuneTracker System 4.5 suite is fast beyond belief. Wait until you see it in action.

After clicking Generate Log, there are a few seconds of inactivity while TuneStacker gathers the necessary data, and then the progress bar zips across, and you're done. We've literally generated a week's worth of program logs...a WEEK'S worth...in a little over a minute, using a demanding master log and a good-sized music library.

Watching it is fun. Have a quick look at the demo video at our YouTube page:

TuneStacker 4 is also amazing for what it doesn't do. The new "But Not" feature lets you do things like this:

- Choose a song that is ranked as a "5" as long as it isn't an instrumental
- Add a classic rock song and limit it to the 1970s or earlier
- Play any Christmas song that doesn't have the Comment "Novelty" or the Tempo "Slow"
- Select an uptempo Pop song from any female artist except Cher
- Grab any song marked "Alternative" that doesn't have the Comment "NightsOnly"

Read about this and other impressive new TuneStacker and Command Center features in the TuneTracker System 4.5 software suite, here...

The new TuneTracker 4.5 suite is scheduled for release in a week, on Monday, May 2, but you can pre-order if you like. You can do so right on the page. Or call for more information, or to place your order for the TuneTracker Systems 4.5 upgrade, at 920-273-0543.

QuickTip: "Keep an eye on your storage space!"

If Command Center gives you an error like, "Cannot write to persistent program log queue," what it is really saying is, "there's no space left to write to the hard drive. A very "ungood" situation. Also very resolvable by getting rid of a few unneeded items and emptying your trash. But there's a better solution, of course, and that's to avoid the problem in the first place by following a few good principles:

1. Do DAILY backups.

Before culling a lot of stuff off your main hard drive, make sure you have a current backup of it, so you can retrieve something you didn't really mean to get rid of.

2. Get rid of stuff you don't need.

Sounds silly, but it's surprisingly easy to get careless and just let stuff pile up on your hard drive. Old news and sports reports, songs you've added but are never going to use, and especially, old block programs, can really take up a lot of space.

It can be a real eye-opener to run Guido, a free utility included with most TuneTracker installation. It shows, graphically, what is taking up the space on your hard drive. Odds are you'll discover that you've accumulated a lot of unneeded stuff that can be trashed.

3. Empty your trash.

We routinely encounter customers who do a good job of clearing out dead wood, but never empty their trash. What they don't realize is that they haven't actually saved themselves any space yet, because the files were only moved to the Trash folder, not deleted. To actually free up space, you must also right-click on your Trash icon and choose "Empty trash."

4. Remember the old "SHIFT-Del" trick.

If you click on the icon of a file, hold down SHIFT and then tap the Del key, you'll be given the opportunity to permanently delete a file rather than moving it to the trash. It's a time-saver when you know for sure you're not going to need the file anymore.

5. Re-use the same file name.

Most stations already do this, but for those who don't, it's useful to know that if you have reports that are recorded afresh each day, you can save space by always using the same folder and filename for them...thus tomorrow's report won't take up any more space than today's did.

6. Keep track of items with "dated file names."

The # GetPlay feature in Command Center lets the system retrieve each day's files based on a date in the file name. It's enormously helpful, however using this approach will result in a build-up of audio files with names based on already-expired dates. Don't forget to visit the folders containing such files routinely and get rid of the "oldies."QuickTip: "Keep an eye on your storage space!"
