Syd -

I plan to be in Brantford this weekend. If no other offer shows up I could grab one and make an ADF for Ken.

Maybe I would also be able to pick up certain other disks? :)

Don't know where you are located, but if you would be willing to come to
Brantford you could just grab your own copy here. Otherwise it may take a
bit for us to make an ADF especially since we have our big event this
Saturday.

Subject: [torontocbm] "BMD" Amiga PAL Boot Disk

I was wondering if anyone might still have a copy of the "BMD" Amiga PAL Boot Disk that used to be shipped with Amiga games that were made in Europe.

Back around 1992 I worked for a computer distributor in Woodstock, Ontario called BMD (British Magazine Distributors). It brought over a good number of Amiga (and later PC) games from Europe. Initially, there was a problem with some of these games because they wouldn't run properly on the NTSC Amigas. Shortly thereafter someone created the "BMD" Amiga PAL Boot Disk. It was included with every Amiga game from Europe that BMD shipped to the Amiga Dealers here in Canada (and also the USA).

An Amiga owner would first boot from the PAL Boot Disk. As long as that Amiga had the 1MB Fat Agnus the boot disk would "change" the Amiga from NTSC

(50Hz) mode to PAL (60Hz) mode. After that the Amiga owner could then boot the Amiga game from Europe and it would usually work without any issues.

I know that with a lot people using emulators nowadays to run Amiga ADF games there is really no need for using the PAL Boot disk. However, I have been converting a few ADF files to DSDD Amiga disks and have discovered that

a lot of the ADF Amiga Games I've found are the "European/PAL" versions.

I've been looking for an ADF copy of the PAL Boot Disk - or something like it - but so far I haven't found any. I was hoping that someone might still have a copy of one lying around. If so, would you be able to make me a copy

or make me an ADF file of the disk and E-mail it to me?

Sorry to be a bit long winded (above). I wasn't sure how many people knew or remembed about those PAL boot disks.

Thanks for your help! :)
