Doug, sorry, I should have been a little more specific. I meant to include common names in addition to the scientific name and Hodges #. There is no substitution for the scientific names, since they are recognized world-wide. I can navigate among scientific names with birds and wildflowers, but with 3000+ moths, I am totally lost here! I will always include the sci name and Hodges # with my postings, along with the common name. And, I can't imagine how you would possibly keep up with all these sightings without the Hodges #, especially! Thanks so much for all your work here. Audrey Audrey Hoff I think that I think, therefore I am.......maybe....... ________________________________ From: Douglas Downs <douglas_downs@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: Tn-Moths <tn-moths@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sat, June 12, 2010 5:20:04 PM Subject: [tn-moths] Re: FOY for Chester County Aubrey, As others and I have stated earlier, we tend to be very flexible in recording information. The only danger in sticking with common names alone is that there are occasions when common names vary from place to place and even from species to species. That's why I like to include common, scientific, and Hodges in the state list. I believe Jean does the same for FOY. But in the interest of keeping this listserv user-friendly, just keep those records coming -- any way, any shape, any form. Many thanks to everyone.
