Hi Butterfly Friends,
This Saturday the 24th is the Clifton Bend fall count. We will meet at the
Carroll Cabin Barrens State Natural Area parking lot at 9:30 AM to begin the
count. The weather forecast looks pretty good right now with a little respite
from the recent extreme heat predicted. Since this is a seasonal count, we are
required to have at least 4 observers and put in 6 party-hours for the count to
be official. So please let me know if you are able to help out. With the
abundant Liatris, Frostweed, and Snow Squarestem as nectar sources they usually
bring in lots of butterflies. Last year we had 53 species and nearly 1500
individuals. Bring plenty of water and bug spray (this area is notoriously
tick-y) and plan on lunch at around 1:30 at Meo Mio's Cajun restaurant (THE
BEST shrimp and grits ever!). As always, there will be a $3.00 fee to NABA to
join the count. We should finish around 5:00, but you are always free to leave
whenever you need to.
