A pair of Short Eared Owls were seen this evening (Jan
11th) in phase III of Shelby Bottoms. The owls were
seen flying over the second field. We were standing
on the large mound of dirt looking out over the field
(towards the river and the back side of Opry Mills
Mall). The first owl was spotted around 5:10pm. A
second was seen shortly thereafter and the two owls
were seen within the same field of view. By 5:20pm
they had flown into the field to the right (towards
the airport) and out of sight. Richard Conners and my
wife Rachel indicated one bird was darker in color
than the other.

Phase III is the north end of the Bottoms. You take
Rosebank to Welcome, turn right into Welcome, then
take the first left onto Forest Green. Forest Green
dead ends at the parking lot for Shelby Bottoms. The
owls were seen over the second field.

Thanks to Richard Conners and his guest Sarah in
helping spot the owls.
