While doing a count for the GBBC today (2/16/09) on County House Rd, just
south of Smithville in DeKalb County, I was surprised to find an American
Tree Sparrow. It was not too difficult to identify since I just spent some
time a few days ago studying one in the yard of fellow birders, Tommy and
Virginia Curtis. Only the second one I have ever seen and really not
expecting to find another, but it jumped up out of some blackberry briers
and called getting my attention. The breast spot and bicolored beak really
stood out in the sunshine, giving me a good look but without a camera in
hand for what would have been an excellent photo opp.
