Spent a little more than an hour this morning at the Busseltown unit
of Tennessee NWR (Decatur County), looking for shorebird habitat
since the migration season is getting underway. There were some
muddy shores, but not many wading birds: 2 Great Blue Herons, 7
Great Egrets, 8 Killdeers, and 2 Least Sandpipers. The unit is
mostly cornfields and open water.
Are there other good areas to look for shorebirds within about an
hour of Lewis County? What about the Duck River WMA in Maury
County? It is a huge sprawling collection of parcels; are any of
them shorebird spots?
Thanks --
