Rankin area, Cocke county Thursday, June 13th , 2006: 7pm-9pm The location of the egret rookery at Rankin changes frequently - yesterday evening it was in a swampy grove near Holt Town Rd, about a mile north of the Rankin Bridge. We watched waders flying in for a while; presumably there were more at roost that we couldn't see. Lake level at Douglas was at 991.8, more than 2 ft. below this summer's peak, and dropping; some mudflats may be exposed by Sunday (991.3 predicted). A few killdeer, the first returing shorebirds we've seen this season, foraged in some grassy shallows,.
