I found a singing Swainson's Warbler at Big South Fork NRRA in TN on Sunday. My wife and I were hiking near Slave Falls on the Middle Creek trail, which we took as a spur off the Charit Creek - Twin Arches trail. If you know the area, that will mean something to you:) The location is a couple hour hike from a trail head. Anyway, the bird was exactly where I'd expect it: steep rocky ravine with thick rhododendrons along a creek. Resident birds were pretty much silent (and not found), but the wood warblers, vireos, and acadian flycatchers were still singing. Good numbers of black-throated green, black-and-white, and hooded warblers and ovenbirds were singing. The one night I was awake a lot in the middle of the night and a yellow-billed cuckoo was making his presence known regularly. He sang more at night than during daylight hours. Great hiking and birding!
