After a long, slow winter with only Winter Wren added to the
yardlist, we've had 3 new additions in the last 6 days. Ran
home for lunch hoping to find a few warblers while I ate but
instead found 2 Pine Siskins at the thistle feeder. The hordes
of goldfinches we've had all winter finally drew some in.
That's yardbird #119.

Purple Finches are still the most numerous birds in the
neighborhood. They're impossible to count as they spread out
through the woods but I would guess at least 20-30 if not more.

Did find a Black-and-White Warbler and Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
to go with the Black-throated Green, Yellow-rumps and Scarlet
Tanager seen and heard while walking the dogs this morning. Also
at lunch, had the first Broad-winged Hawk of the season circling
overhead until the neighborhood Red-tailed escorted it further
north along the ridge.

So the Purple Finches showed up during redbud winter; now we've
got Pine Siskins during dogwood winter. I like how this is
building. Bring on blackberry winter... maybe we'll get some
Evening Grosbeaks!
