What a treat this morning to see our first of the winter Red Fox Sparrow almost
at daylight. Since getting back from a birding trip to Tucson we've enjoyed
the White-throated Sparrows, Dark-eyed Juncos, Pine Siskins, and Purple Finches
so much and this beautiful bird adds to our visual delight. No White-crowned
Sparrow yet but we saw dozens of them in southeastern Arizona so hopefully at
least one will show up in our yard this winter.
An observation about Fox Sparrows - it seems we never get one until the
temperature drops below freezing. Is this coincidental or a real factor in
their behavior?
