The 47th consecutive Elizabethton Fall Count was held on 24 September
with 39 observers in 8 parties (including 2 yard watchers). Participants
covered
Carter County, plus parts of adjacent Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi, & Washington
counties.
We tallied 125 species. Oppressive heat on count day impacted results.
Although we equaled the recent 30-year average for number of species,
numbers of individuals for many species were low (warblers are a good example).
A curious statistic: we had more Cedar Waxwings than Eur. Starlings.
Thanks to all of the participants for literally sweating it out!!
Note: The all-time high on this count was 137 species in 1993.
