In response to Ron Hoff and Terry Witt: The hawk that Bonnie Johnson, Judy Newsome and I observed along Ninemile Crossroad on Bledsoe county on January 12 was a classic dark morph Rough-legged Hawk. We observe the bird in flight; the slight dihedral, long wings, white upper-wing patch, dark terminal band against a light undertail, and dark uppertail were all seen clearly. I think it is possible a dark Red-tail could be in the area. I know one was seen every winter for several years around the Johnson farm in Sequatchie County. Which as the hawk flies is not that far away. So dont beat yourselves up too much!
