tried ordering anything online with thunder yet but one of these days I will.

Yes, there is.
Press numeric keypad 3 which takes the mouse pointer to the bottom of the
screen. Then press numeric keypad 8 which jumps the mouse pointer up and you
hear the number of items. What is happening is that you are getting the
reading cursor to speak the status line.
