As Bruce suggests this information is kept on the Citrix servers: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\MSLicensing But if licenses are kept on the Citrix server, how do the other servers know that a license was already issued? Example: 1) Diskless client connects to server1, a license is issued and placed on server1. 2) Diskless client connects to server2, where is the license? back on server1. Does another license get issued? ________________________________________ Hector Minero Systems Administrator NSWCDD Code K55 Ph: (540) 653-8859 Fax: (540) 653-8575 -----Original Message----- From: Nishimura, Scott [mailto:Scott.Nishimura@xxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, August 01, 2002 2:01 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: TS license problem Hector, Somehow it must keep track because I'm logging in with a Linux client and since I've already logged in before, the license count does not go up. All my devices (Neoware and NCD Exploras) don't have a registry. = Therefore, I suppose licenses are being stored on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\MSLicensing. All my servers have lots of licenses there. Can you explain how this = key is used? I know you've explained that this key stores licenses for diskless = clients; however what's process for obtaining a license. I know how a license = gets issued, the 90 day rule, etc, but all this applies to systems with a registry. In my case, that does not apply. Example: 1) Neoware gets a license from the license server and it's stored on MetaFrame server 1. 2) Next time, Neoware goes to MF Server 2. Does it get another license? Since it does not have a registry, how can the license server determine whether a license is needed? I don't think I'm the only one using Linux based Neowares. How are = people dealing with this licensing mess? ________________________________________ Hector Minero Systems Administrator NSWCDD Code K55 Ph: (540) 653-8859 Fax: (540) 653-8575 -----Original Message----- From: Pfeifer, Bruce A MSER:EX [mailto:Bruce.A.Pfeifer@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, July 31, 2002 5:42 PM To: Stratton, Doug MSER:EX; 'MineroHB@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: RE: [THIN] TS license problem The WTS CALS are normally stored in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSLicensing on the device logging = into WTS. If the device is not capable of storing the WTS-CAL because it has not registry, then MetaFrame will store it within the registry on the WTS/MetaFrame server under=20 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\MSLicensing I would assume MS is asking you to clear out the licenses within HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\MSLicensing . One thing to be aware of when you start to see multiple CALS assigned to = the same device on the WTS-LS, is that if the user logging into WTS does not have sufficient privileges on the device (a device with a registry such = as a NTe thin client or PC) to write to the registry, the WTS CAL is not = retained although the WTS-LS issues one. Thus the next person who logs into WTS = on that Device is assigned another CAL. If they cannot write to the = registry the CAL is not retained again, and so on.
