Hmmm not quite .... As Ryan says - you can only have one data collector per zone - if that data collector goes offline an election is held (similar to Master browser elections in Windows or ICA Browser elections pre MF XP). This happens automatically - you do not have to do not have to set anything to make this happen. The setting of a server's preference helps determine which server will win this election and become the new data collector. Also if the original server has a higher preference it will become the DC when it is bought back on line. Setting a server's preference enables you to control which server will be the DC in your zone and which server will take on that role should the most preferred server go offline. In the manual pages I referenced in my first post, Citrix recommends having a dedicated DC (a server that does not host applications for client sessions) in large zones and enterprise networks with high client traffic. If you are planning to take the current DC offline you can change it's preference lower and make another server the most preferred for your zone and it will take over the dc role for the zone while the first server is still online. You can then take the first server offline with out disrupting the DC function in your zone. I am not sure if this is necessary or not but tend to do this when shutting down my most preferred DC during working hours. -Ec -----Original Message----- From: Ryan Lambert [mailto:rlambert@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, 1 April 2004 11:35 a.m. To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Redundant Data Collector Hi, More for Dan's clarification, as by this argument I think you both have an understanding of zones and DCs... :-P Dan, your initial question and your subject line are kind of contradictory... but that's ok. Here's the scoop, as Roy explained earlier... If you want two have two data collectors because Data Collector A is getting overwhelmed, and you would like to split some of the load onto Data Collector B... you need to have another zone. You can not have two data collectors within the same zone in Citrix. Be advised, that Citrix does not recommend having a lot of zones, due to the fact that communication between the DCs occurs during logon/logoff/disconnect/connect, and changes in server loads. If you are not seeing significant performance problems with your current "Most preferred" DC, you should not create another zone. If you want to have two data collectors for "redundancy" (eg: Data Collector A goes down and you want Data Collector B to pick up), you can do this by setting the preferences in CMC as Phillip stated. -----Original Message----- From: Euan Cooper [mailto:Euan.Cooper@xxxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Wednesday, March 31, 2004 6:10 PM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: Redundant Data Collector What Dan actually posted was "I would like to have at least 2 data collectors in my farm" no way your instructions would achieve this - which is why I suggested RTFM .... -----Original Message----- From: Philip Walley [mailto:philip.walley@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, 1 April 2004 2:12 a.m. To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Redundant Data Collector Why do I need to read those pages?
