Win2k has a session pool limit of 16MB. The ICA pseudo frame buffer
comes out of this session pool, and the maximum size of the frame buffer
is specified by the registry value:
HKLM\System\Current Control
Set\Control\TerminalServer\Wds\icawd\thin16\MaxLVBMem
The MaxLVBMem value specifies (in bytes) the maximum memory that
thinwire will allocate for the frame buffer.
It can be modified using twconfig.exe; however, twconfig will not let
you specify a value larger than 7680000 bytes.
The remaining 8.4 MB is taken up by other things that we have little or
no control over (e.g. GDI itself, printer drivers, etc.).
This was changed on Windows 2003 though.
The setting you refer forces that to be used what is usually a problem
on new HW. Dinousaur settings that even Citrix forgot or has no idea
what they do. :-)

Ping reply to the server is 30ms....One thing we did find though is
using the Full PN bypassing NFUSE and it is much faster...Upon
investigating this further we removed the lines below
<snip>
ForceLVBMode=1
DeferredUpdateMode=On
<snip>

and it is amazingly faster.....Anyone have any idea what these do??? I
asked Citrix support and they had no idea.....Any help is
appreciated.....

If you ping the server what is the round trip time?

Subject: [THIN] Office XP slow

We are experiencing some pretty severe slowdown in Office apps via
Citrix....By slowdown I mean that some users can get up to 1 1/2 lines
ahead of the screen.....We have tried speedscreen with FR3 with the
latest 7.0 client. We have tried bitmap caching and compression
enabled. Hardware is a DL380 with dual 1 GB processors and 4 GB
RAM.....I can be the only user on the server and see this hesitation
though...We are redirecting Appdata to a file server but it is on the
same Vlan as the Terminal Server...Some other details are below....Any
help is appreciated.....

Citrix Metaframe XPe FR3
Office XP installed with default settings and the usual turned off such
as spell as you type, provide feedback with animation, etc
