[THIN] Re: License Server not working

looks like lots of confusion on this topic

Depends on the version of windows your citrix is loaded on
If you have w2k server with citrix you will need a Terminal License server
which will supplies the clients with TS cals for W2k

It doesn't matter what version of DC .

PS:. W2k Terminal License server can't supply clients for win 2003
Terminal client connections
:. Win 2003 can supply for both W2k/Win 2003 Terminal client
connections

Don't confuse with windows client access licenses which is a separate issue

Right now. We have a 2000 domain and citrix running on win2k servers.

What happens if I add a 2003 DC? Can I still run my license server on a
win2k DC if my citrix servers stay win2k?

Thanks,jb

That's good that they changed that. I was thinking of just popping the
2k3 disk in my current Win2k license server and upgrading it but since it
is
a domain controller (my only other domain controller) that opens up a whole
new can of worms.=20

Well the 2003 License server can run in a 2000 domain, it doesn't have to
be
on a DC any more.=20

Yeah. That looks to be it all right. For some reason I thought a 2k
license server would do the trick in a 2000 domain. Q823313 says
differently. Crap. Oh well. Looks like this is a good time to take the
rest of domain to Windows 2003.=3D20

Greg, you said the license server was a 2000 box? And the 2003 cant issue
licenses? Just making sure. Because if that is what you are saying that is
right. 2000 License servers cant issue license to 2003 TS boxes.

Are you licensed in per user mode on the 2k3 servers?

This is odd. I may have messed something up but everything is working just
fine.
I saw some errors in the event log about not being able to issue a client
license. This was on a Windows 2003 Server with Metaframe Xpa FR/SP3. No
big deal because all of my clients are connecting.

I decided to take a look at my license server which is a Windows 2000
Server
with SP6 and it only shows about 4 licenses have been issued out of the 125
we have. The rest are all showing up as available. Only 22 temp licenses
have been issued.

This is the same license server we had running prior to moving form Windows
2000 to Windows 2003 on our terminal servers. Almost all of the licenses
were issued when we were running Windows 2000.

I missed something during the upgrade but I am not sure what. Like I said,
everything is running fine and none of my users have had trouble
connecting.
Most of them connect from thin client terminals with a few fat clients
connecting at our corporate headquarters.
