Executive Software's UnDelete for Servers works but has flaws. It's
saved us sometime here every now and then instead of having to go back
to tape for ID10T errors.

Or use my documents as well as the folder sync option with Windows XP
and then you have a local and network copy...great in case of drive
failure or LAN problems....

No, but if it's a W2k3 File Server, enable shadow copies. Or if
it's a SAN take snapshots of the LUN.

How about if we map a drive letter to the network folder - would
this work?

The recyclebin does not work with network folders.

Is the "My documents" redirected onto a network share? If so,
that's the
        reason.

I've got a strange problem that I can't find the answer to
anywhere -

Deleting items in user's MY DOCUMENTs folders do not go into
their
        Recycle Bin.

        Any ideas anyone?
