It doesn't keep the default printer either way - the default client or
network assigned printer isn't kept.

How do you assign printers? Do you allow users to set their default?

I would have thought that would still work (assigning certain printers
to users), your problem would then be 'unassigning' them :?

From your description tho' I took it to be client printers that are the
problem - not assigned network printers.

Is it that you've got users with a mix of client printers and some
network assigned printers. If they simply choose a default printer as
being one of their client printers its ok and gets remembered; but not
if its a session printer thats been assigned from a print server?

We're testing out hotfix 22 on one of our servers today.

CTX107415 looks interesting - but if the printers are set to remain
after logoff, changing policies to only assign certain printers to users
will have no affect - right?

Subject: [THIN] Default Printer in MPS4

We've got an issue in MPS4 where the default printer isn't remembered -
it resets every time the user logs in to the first printer found on the
list.

We'd like users to be able to choose their default printer - but
obviously it needs to be remembered when they log out / back in again.

We're using policies & to troubleshoot, we've disabled all policies
except one, which gives all domain users all printers.

Here's what we've got set:

Printing > Client Printers > Auto Creation - Enabled / Auto Create the
client's default printer only

Printing > Client Printers > Printer Properties Retention - Enabled /
Held in profile only if not saved in client

Printing > Session Printers > Enabled / Do Not Adjust the user's default
printer (+ all printers listed, settings unmodified)

Any ideas what could be causing this?
