As a rule I would say that most of LETE territorial disputes are resolved very quickly and the defendant usually quickly flees the scene after first sign of aggression from other bird. Only very rarely two opponents will actually face each other in the battle. I am sure we all have seen, and admired, Black Skimmer air battle that looks more like a display than serious fight (only sometimes physical contact occurs). I was lucky to take a full series of shots (LETEs are small, very agile birds, so to keep them in frame and focus is often challenging) during aerial dispute when both tern movements and postures was closely matching these of battling skimmers. http://www.pbase.com/mbb/image/151297296 http://www.pbase.com/mbb/image/151297297 And composite photo showing series of shots taken during the dispute http://www.pbase.com/mbb/image/151297295/original Mark B Bartosik Houston, Texas http://www.pbase.com/mbb/from_the_field Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
